For a bag of rice...

There was a field laborer who used to work in the fields from sunrise till sunset for a land lord. After putting away the tools of farming at dusk, he would sit in the open backyard adjoining his land lord’s house waiting for his bag of rice to take home. From the far corner of the yard, he could figure the people of the house cooking, eating and have a good time with the family. While he, waited squatting on the floor with his hands folded pressing against his chest and resting on the knees. Every time the man of the house came out, the laborer called out “Ayyaaaaaa” to get his attention. He sat patiently as if he was being given his bag of rice as charity and not for the dreary field work he had done from dawn to dusk. His stomach growled. His body ached. He would doze off for a few minutes and wake up dazed. Had the master come with bag of rice, if he finds him asleep, it would not look good!  His thoughts wandered to his family, eagerly waiting for his arrival. He was anxious that the delay in taking the rice bag home, meant his children would be tiring being hungry. Once he reached home, his wife would cook the rice and the family would have their meal, at last!
