But then it happens...
I am mostly a positive person. An optimist to the core. I believe that smiling can fix things. I have written things that I enjoy the most about life in the blog mostly. At the most sometimes, rant. But then I feel down and out too. I sometimes feel let down by people. Am not ok at times. I fail at things, I feel inadequate, I regret not working harder or not wanting something badly enough, I crave, am angry, wonder why I dont enjoy enough, find myself vulnerable, wish I was stronger or wiser, wish I wouldn't repeat some mistakes, wouldn't trust people so much, expect less, not give so much, wish I could give a piece of my mind when I was hurt by someone's words, wish I hadn't cared so much for some people or wish I hadnt ignored some people, not shared so much myself with some people, and sometimes people just seem plain cruel. Sh*t happens. It does. And it is absolutely ok not to be ok.
I dont want to sign off on a positive note which I usually do to cheer myself up. Its ok not to be ok.

Well, "The suitable boy"...
Am not the kind of person who goes to the end of the fat
book that am reading to find out what really happens at the end. But I did. And
am not surprised. Vikram Seth writes wonderfully well. The story of “The
suitable boy” is quite engrossing, engaging and makes for a pleasurable reading
experience. But, come on, such a fat book! I am done with reading more than
half the book, and it has been quite a few weeks since I started reading, I cannot
carry the book around for the sheer size of it, so cant read when am on the
move. So I gave in to a momentary lapse of self control, I was very curious to
know who Lata ends up marrying - of her three suitors, I went ahead, found out. Now am back to reading
the book where I had stopped before giving in to my curiosity. If it was some
other kind of a book, may be I would have lost interest reading further as I
knew the end, but somehow that knowledge here does not deter my wanting to
complete reading the book. Good for me!

Kai Po Che...
Movie name: Kai Po Che
Language : Hindi
Why did I watch it : New release -its a few weeks old, but nothing exciting in the theater and I was kind of not so keen on watching the movie as I had found the book "The 3 mistakes of my life" on which the movie is based, mediocre. But the reviews for the movie seemed good and little nudging was enough to go watch.
My take : I liked the lead actors, pretty decent stuff from debutants in fact. The pace of the movie seems good, wasnt bored at any time. The characterization of Ishaan, Omi and Govind are quite impressive - they come across quite real. Kai Po Che means "I have cut"(the kite) in Gujrati it seems. The characters do switch to Gujrati sometimes in the movie and one has to make sense from the context(no sub titles)! The movie sticks to the same story as in the book, but with some variation at the end if I remember correctly - although I wasnt impressed by the story itself even when I read the book. It has all the ingredients for a good commercial movie - friendship, cricket, violence and even some romance. Not my cup of tea though but I dint mind watching the movie either. One time watch.

Haunting thought...
There is a quote from Bob Marley thats haunting me for a while - "The truth is everyone is going to hurt you, you just got to find the ones worth suffering for."

Self defense...
This post was long pending. Had attended a session on self defense on women's day at office ten days ago. Learnt some interesting things, which we all will usually be aware of, but need to remember at times.
Firstly the emphasis was on being alert and watchful of the environment. Deeply engrossed in a mobile conversation while walking on the street can make one an easy target for chain snatchers or mobile flickers. Not walking alone in dark/not well lit areas and such other precautions were also emphasized.
Secondly it is very important to have a presence of mind - the expert/instructor said this can be sharpened by practice They showed some ways to move -kicks, elbow twists, punches, pushes etc and set oneself free when attacked and it was more catching the attacker off guard and trying to escape than being sheer force of strength.
Also the instructor said that in case of an attack the person attached should scream, this not only alerts people in the neighbourhood who to come to rescue, it also scares the attacker to some extent and it also would give the person who was attached more strength. He added that, that was the reason people scream in martial arts, as screaming stiffens the postures and makes the person feel stronger. That was an interesting info.
Of course there was emphasis on carrying pepper sprays and practice using them for being prepared.
With what one keeps reading in newspapers these precautions seem more than important to be known these days! hmmmmm
